The product of Tamara Harpford’s wordsmithing usually finds an audience with fellow public servants and family historians, yet under the anonymity that goes with writing for a day job.

Raised with an interest in South Australian history, she is also a keen observer of this present age. Tamara finds herself drawn to stories of quiet and sometimes hidden heroes, and those sweet moments in which a character’s purpose becomes clear. She takes courage from Exodus 4:12 and God’s promise to equip anxious Moses with His words, and the skill to use them.

Until 2023, Tamara had never completed a novel, despite telling everyone that she wanted to be a writer since she was a kid.  Preparing to submit to the CALEB Award was as much about battling self-doubt and procrastination as it was about this novel.  When she hit 'submit', she felt like she had won one of the biggest victories of her life. Anyone else who is feeling that doubt – let’s talk.

Tamara Harpford is a pen name (Harp + Ford).

It was the birthplace in Devon, UK, of her enigmatic 3x great-grandmother
Willmett Huxtable Tilke Lawrance
(1808-1880)
teacher, traveller, wife, mother

Thanks be to God for the privilege to wield words under His care and calling.
